When I first started with coding, I used to post my codes on a programming phpBB forum (yes those were quite popular back then).

Every time I posted my code, there was this guy called “guest3456” who would find faults in my code and reply to my post with issues.

He didn’t encourage. He didn’t hedge his criticisms with something positive.

He just replied that my code sucks like a psychopath.

I hated it.

It was my first taste of getting “hate” on the Internet.

I used to get defensive when it first happened.

Replied to him in anger as well.

But his suggestions were legit.

Soon I started taking his advice and it did help me improve my coding.

And after a few months, my code was so good, that the “guest3456" guy posted a 100% positive reply on my post.

The situation was so bad I replied to him — “Hey, is this really you? How are you posting a nice reply to my post?”

Needless to say, he ignored me.

Moral of the story -

If someone criticizes you, don’t ignore them for the fear of getting offended. Instead, listen.

You might learn something helpful.
