Hiring cheap and good programmers as a startup

If you are on a budget but still need to hire a good programmer, you can try this.

Go to Google Summer of Code website and look for recent programs (2019, 2018).

Then go to the organization list of that program and open organizations that do similar work to what you need to hire for.

There you will find the student’s name who completed such projects successfully.

You won’t get a link to the student but googling “ GSoC” usually works since these students write blogs.

Reach out to them and offer them a part-time, remote position.

Give them a great salary (> 50k/m).

Those students will usually take your offer because of 2 reasons.

  1. They get to work in a real company and gain experience.
  2. They are getting great pay.

You might wonder if they will be able to give time to work since they have college.

But I have noticed that such students bunk college anyway. And even if they don’t, most students will have time for a part-time position.

In theory, this may look evil.

Some people may say, you are making students bunk college and not focus on their studies.

But in practice, I have found that it works great for both students and companies. Also, you are not forcing anyone here.

So give this a shot.
