Picking projects you are not qualified to do is the easiest way to make your work life more stressful.

But it also the fastest way to grow.

I recently took a backend mini-project at work not knowing what was needed to be done.

I assumed it would be a simple PHP code change.

But little did I know that most work was in SQL.

Writing huge, complex SQL queries to modify the business logic in a certain way.

I only had basic experience with SQL before so it initially didn’t make sense to me.

But after hours of trying and multiple attempts, I was able to solve it.

Thanks to that, I was able to learn many new things in SQL.

So the lesson here is -

if you want to grow fast in your career, sign up for hard things and figure them out.

It can be initially frustrating, but in the long term, you will be thankful for those challenges.
